Dr. Kristi Prince, ND, IBCLC
Dr. Kristi Prince, ND, IBCLC is a registered Naturopathic Doctor, graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine as the Valedictorian for the Class of 2012. After graduation she completed a 2-year residency at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Prior to completing her medical studies, she attended McMaster University where she received her Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
In her private practice, she enjoys working with people to address a variety of chronic health conditions, though her real passion lies in treating women's health, with further training in managing women's health concerns like: menstrual issues, menopause, fertility and gynecology. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), she also provides breastfeeding support, having completed the Lactation Medicine Program at the International Breastfeeding Centre under the mentorship of Dr. Jack Newman. Kristi is an active member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors, Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, and is a registered member in good standing with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). She has met the Standard of Practice for Prescribing as per the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO).
Along with maintaining a private practice, Kristi is a part-time faculty member at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. Her most rewarding job however is being a mother to her daughter.
Dr. Alison Cockerill ND
Dr. Alison Cockerill, ND graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto. Her experience with the ways in which religion relates to health, piqued her interest a holistic, natural approach to medicine. Alison went on to complete the 4-year post-graduate Doctor of Naturopathy at the accredited, Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). During this time, she completed 1,200 hours of supervised clinical experience at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic. She also provided supervised clinical care to underserviced populations at the Queen West Community Health Centre, Toronto.
Alison believes that healing is a journey that we all experience in our own unique way. It is therefore, important to her, that each patient is treated in a holistic and personalized manner. The naturopathic approach combines evidence-based treatments with individualized care and the consideration that every aspect of our lives (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual) impacts our overall health and wellness.
Alison works with a wide variety of health concerns including but not limited to: hormone imbalances, infertility, digestive complaints, skin conditions, mental health concerns and weight management. She has also met the Standard of Practice for Prescribing in Ontario which allows her to prescribe bioidentical hormone therapy, desiccated thyroid hormone and perform B12 injections. Alison holds a certificate in Functional and Personalized Hormone Restoration Therapy through the LP3 network. She acknowledges the individuality of hormonal imbalances and has a thorough understanding of personalized, bioidentical hormone restoration therapies. She is a member of both the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
During her time at CCNM, Alison also became a mother. This gave rise to her passion for using her skills as a naturopathic doctor to address infertility, support preconception health and treat children of all ages. Alison believes in building a truly integrative healthcare system and she would be honoured to be part of your healthcare team!
Marissa Wopereis, RMT
Marissa is a Cobourg native and resident - she graduated from Sutherland-Chan Massage Therapy School in Toronto in 2010. Her program included specialty clinical practice working with clients with MS (multiple sclerosis) chronic pelvic pain and high-risk pregnancy. She received training in advanced sports techniques, which she incorporates in her own sports of hockey and cycling.
Since graduation she has taken courses on advanced scar work, advanced techniques for TMJ (tempormandibular jaw) syndrome, and Kinesio Taping.
Carolyn Higginson, MSW, RSW
Carolyn Higginson, MSW, RSW is a Registered Social Worker with over 12 years experience working in the mental health field. Carolyn holds a Master of Social Work degree from McGill University, as well as an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Queen’s University. Practicing from a strength-based, anti-oppressive framework, Carolyn employs a compassionate and integrative approach to therapy and uses elements of CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness in her work with adult clients.
Clients who value a holistic approach to therapy tend to be drawn to Carolyn, especially if they are working through a transition such as divorce, life change, or health status.
Margarida Medeiros, BSW (Hons), RSW
Margarida Medeiros, BSW, RSW is a Registered Social Worker who has provided mental health treatment in the community for the last 18 years. She is passionate about supporting people on their journey to their best self through mind/body approaches. Her core value is to create a therapeutic relationship that feels safe and supportive, and that leads to people’s increased well being and the skills to reach their goals. She is pleased to provide individual therapy to adults 18 and over, and couples seeking support.
She practices from a holistic perspective to address areas of mental health that are out of balance. She is skilled in evidence-based modalities that provide people with the tools to lead more enriched and mindful lives: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness. She also takes a trauma-informed approach to therapy for people who have experienced adverse experiences in their lives. A collaborative assessment will guide her in addressing each person’s unique needs while highlighting areas of strength that each individual possesses that can often remain untapped.
Margarida will be seeing clients at our clinic starting February 5, 2019, on Tuesdays 5-8pm.
Sherry Heenan, PT
Sherry is a Registered Orthopedic and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and is a caring individual who listens to your concerns, and works with you to achieve your desired goals. She is a very hands on therapist, using manual therapies, education, and exercise to get her clients moving and living life with the freedom to function.
When she is not spending time with her husband and two beautiful daughters, she enjoys yoga, meditation, and living her dream of working as a physiotherapist.
Sarah Beranger, RHN
Sarah Beranger is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and a graduate of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. She has a background in holistic nutrition for achieving goals like weight loss, athletic performance and detoxing, as well as for treating specific health concerns such as hormonal imbalances, digestive problems, insulin resistance, paediatric issues and allergies. Sarah is a member of the CSNN Alumni Program for continuous education where she keeps up to date on current holistic nutrition research and practice.
Sarah believes in the power of whole foods as part of a healthy overall lifestyle, including the importance of psychology as it pertains to eating and food. She adopts a holistic approach to nutrition in her practice and creates customized plans for each individual that lead to lasting, manageable lifestyle changes without feelings of deprivation.
Krissy graduated from Trillium College with Honours, having completed the Medical Office Assistant Course. She has worked in various clinical environments for over nine years now, and brings a great deal of expertise and experience to her role as Patient Care Coordinator at Nurturing Health Naturopathic Clinic.
In her free time, Krissy enjoys drawing and working out. She loves spending time with her fiancé Brandon and their dog Frankie.
(Teresa) Mary Saraiva R.Ac.
Mary is a Registered Acupuncturist with the CTCMPAO and a professional member of the CSCMA. She has a B.F.A. in Contemporary Dance and while studying and performing modern dance she became very fascinated with the human body and its capacity for healing and strength.
In 1995 she completed all levels of instruction for Craniosacral therapy and since then has been helping people of all ages to release trauma from connective tissue injury.
In 2000, she graduated from the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine with an Acupuncture Diploma. She has been practising in various clinical settings, treating a wide variety of health concerns and also providing cosmetic acupuncture for her patients. She then completed a Certificate of Acupuncture from the Eight Branches Academy of Eastern Medicine to further the techniques used in Tuina (Acupressure TCM Massage), TCM Nutritional balancing, Cupping, Gua Sha, Electro-Acupuncture, and Moxa techniques. She also has studied Japanese needling techniques with direct/indirect moxibustion.
She finds that her experience in practising Tai chi, Yoga, Qigong, and Continuum breath work has helped in giving treatments as she provides methods for stress reduction, visualization, and meditation.
Mary is dedicated to helping people achieve better health and she has many years of experience providing treatment for many health concerns. She believes in a proactive and preventative approach to health, and in working with each patient to achieve the best for their health and vitality.
